Frequently asked questions after a car accident

Costs

What does this cost me?

If the accident wasn't your fault, our claim support is free of charge for you. Under German law (§ 249 BGB) the at-fault driver's liability insurer covers the legitimate costs — the expert appraisal, the repair, a rental car and a lawyer are part of that. You pay nothing out of your own pocket, and there are no hidden fees.

What if the insurer reduces the payout?

Insurers often cut the expert's fee, the hourly labour rates or the loss-of-use amount. We check every reduction, object to it in writing and claim back the amount you're entitled to. You don't have to accept the cuts.


Process

How does the claim support work?

You report the accident to us — by phone, on WhatsApp or via the form. We come to you, arrange the expert appraisal, take over the phone calls, appointments and all the correspondence with the other driver's insurer, and keep you updated. You don't have to deal with any of it yourself.

What should I do right after the accident?

Secure the scene and call the emergency number 112 if anyone is injured. Exchange name, address, licence plate and insurance details with the other driver, and take photos of the vehicles, the damage and the scene. Don't sign any admission of fault. Then get in touch with us — the sooner, the better.


Your rights

Do I have the right to choose my own repair shop and expert?

Yes. As the injured party you may freely choose your repair shop and your expert (Sachverständiger) — the other driver's insurer cannot dictate them to you. It's your decision, not the insurer's.

Who pays for the expert, the rental car and loss of use?

When liability is clear, the other driver's liability insurer pays for the expert appraisal, a rental car for the duration of the repair and — if you don't take a rental car — a loss-of-use compensation (Nutzungsausfall) for the time you can't use your car. Towing costs and a diminished-value claim (Wertminderung) for your vehicle can also be included.


Repair shop

Who repairs my car — do I have to use the insurer's repair shop?

No. You choose the repair shop yourself, ideally one near you that you trust. You don't have to accept a so-called 'partner garage' suggested by the other driver's insurer.
